Alpha Lipoic Acid IV
About
About Alpha Lipoic Acid IV
Intravenous alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) is a both fat- and water-soluble antioxidant with clinically proven efficacy for diabetic neuropathy approved in Germany, used off-label in optimization medicine for neuropathy, metabolic syndrome, heavy metal chelation support, and anti-aging applications. IV delivery achieves plasma concentrations 10–50x higher than oral dosing, enabling therapeutic effects not attainable orally. It regenerates vitamins C, E, and glutathione.
Science
Mechanism of Action
Functions as a universal antioxidant in both aqueous and lipid compartments; acts as a cofactor for mitochondrial dehydrogenases; chelates heavy metals including mercury and arsenic; activates Nrf2 to upregulate endogenous antioxidant enzyme expression.
Dosing
Typical Protocol

Legal Status in 2026
This compound is legal to prescribe and dispense through a licensed 503A or 503B compounding pharmacy with a valid prescription. It is not FDA-approved as a finished drug product, but compounding is explicitly permitted under federal law. Quality and sterility standards vary by pharmacy — look for PCAB-accredited compounders.
Evidence
Evidence Tier
Evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) or large observational studies in humans. This is the gold standard — effects have been measured in controlled conditions and results are peer-reviewed and reproducible.
